Benjamin Rauch

Benjamin Rauch is a versatile countertenor and educator, known for his performances and teaching alike. He spent a year singing soprano with the GRAMMY® awarding winning ensemble Chanticleer, performing on major concert stages across the United States, Europe, and Japan, including New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Vienna’s Musikverein. With Chanticleer, Benjamin performed live on NBC’s popular morning television program “Today”. Solo engagements include Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Kodály’s Missa Brevis, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Hamor in Handel’s Jephtha, Piacere in Cavalieri’s Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo, The Spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and The Connecticut Premiere of David Briggs’ Requiem. In 2020, he was part of Opera Harmony’s Digital Creations Created in Confinement where he played David in Ken Steen’s Apart/Mental, which was broadcast by OperaVision and won the Bury Court Opera Award. He has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including Chanticleer, Terpsichore Ensemble, Crescendo, The Greater New Haven Community Chorus, The New Haven Chorale, New Britain Symphony Orchestra, Beth El Symphony Orchestra, CitySingers of Hartford, Hartford Opera Theater, Chorus Angelicus, Gaudeamus, and Mnemosyne Choir and Orchestra. Last year, he joined the Handel and Haydn Society for Handel’s Messiah with the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center.

Regularly commissioned as a choral composer, Benjamin has written numerous works for ensembles including The First Church of Christ in Hartford – Center Church Choir, St. Patrick – St. Anthony Gallery Choir, Treble Clef Choir, Mount Holyoke Glee Club, and numerous choral ensembles at The Hartt School. A native of Long Island, New York, he won first place two years consecutively in the Long Island Composers’ Alliance Young Composers Competition. Benjamin was also the recipient of Best Arrangement from the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, Choral Conducting and Composition from The Hartt School, University of Hartford.

Benjamin currently teaches commercial voice at The Hartt School. Throughout his time teaching at Hartt, he has conducted numerous choral ensembles and taught in both the Vocal Studies and Music Theory divisions. He has also created his own Ear Training for Singers course #raucheartraining, which makes musicianship training available to those who would otherwise not have access to this kind of education. He also runs Benjamin Rauch Voice Studios where he teaches private voice. As a clinician, he has led numerous choral and vocal workshops internationally. Also at home in musical theater, he has served as music director for over 20 productions throughout the northeast. In addition to his eclectic musical career, Benjamin completed his 200-hour yoga teacher training at West Hartford Yoga and specializes in teaching yoga for singers. Instagram: @benjaminrauch
